The Korean Group of IABSE is honored to host the IABSE Congress 2026 in Incheon, South Korea, from September 16 to 18, 2026. Under the theme ‘Structural Engineering Towards Evolution and Hyper-Expansion,’ the Congress will serve as a premier platform for exploring innovative advancements and addressing challenges that will shape the future of structural engineering. Today’s cities are rapidly evolving beyond their traditional role as industrial and commercial hubs. They must continuously adapt to new societal demands and integrate cutting-edge technologies to enhance infrastructure. In this transformation, structural engineering professionals play a key role in driving innovation in infrastructure systems and leading the development of a sustainable built environment. IABSE Congress Incheon 2026 will provide an opportunity to discuss how digital technologies and sustainable development can be integrated into the evolution and hyper-expansion of modern infrastructure systems. Incheon (Songdo) is a dynamic city with world-class infrastructure, including Incheon International Airport and Free Economic Zones, positioning it as a central hub of evolution and hyper-innovation. This makes it an ideal venue for hosting the IABSE Congress Incheon 2026, where forward-looking discussions on the future of structural engineering will take place. Structural engineers connect more than steel and concrete. We connect people. The logo of the IABSE Congress Incheon 2026 is inspired by the Korean word (ieum), meaning “connection” or “linking.” The word embodies what structural engineering ultimately seeks to achieve: bringing people, places, ideas, and generations together.
At first glance, the elements of the logo may appear to be simple geometric forms—circles, columns, beams, slabs, and walls. In fact, they originate from the two Hangul(the Korean alphabet) syllables. Through a process of geometric abstraction, rotation, and overlapping, these characters are transformed into a single integrated symbol. The resulting composition retains the visual essence of ieum while evoking the fundamental forms familiar to structural engineers.
For the IABSE Congress Incheon 2026, ieum represents more than the visual identity of the Congress. It reflects our view that structural engineering is fundamentally about connection: connecting structures with society, knowledge with practice, and engineers with one another across countries and generations.
We hope this logo serves as a simple reminder of who we are and what we do: we help people, and we connect people.
